Projects

For the benefit of the whole community

Yr Heliwr is so much more than just a pub.

We also run projects to support and develop the potential of local people – improving health and wellbeing, tackling loneliness, and teaching new skills.

We have a busy schedule of regular activities, including:

  • Welsh learner’s social evenings held on the second Monday of every month, from 7:30 to 8:30pm
  • Coffee and cake on the first Tuesday of every month from 2.00pm
  • Children’s arts and craft workshops on the second Tuesday of every month from 3.30 to 5.30pm
  • Our sewing club for 11+ children and young adults (and older adults!) every Tuesday from 6.30 to 8.00pm
  • Our ‘Cegin Teulu/ Family Kitchen’ on the last Monday of every month from 5.00 to 7.00pm (to start again in September 2025)
  • A digital café to help people learn new I.T. skills every Thursday from 1.30-3.30pm

All are welcome – come along and get involved!

Gardd yr Heliwr Community Garden

In 2021 we received £15,000 from Renew Wales and the National Lottery to set up a community garden in Nefyn. We have transformed a scruffy piece of waste ground into a thriving garden that provides food for the community and Yr Heliwr’s kitchen, as well as a home for wildlife and plants. Many thanks to the Rhug Estate for leasing us the land and to Pub is the Hub for funding towards the gazebo. Volunteers always needed and welcome!

Arts and Culture

As part of our stated mission to preserve and protect Welsh language and heritage, Yr Heliwr regularly hosts free events open to anyone interested in learning more about the fascinating local culture. Events have included Halloween story telling sessions for children, local ghost stories with author and playwright, Llŷr Titus, and an exploration of Nefyn’s archaeology with historian and Radio Cymru presenter Rhys Mwyn. No need to book – just turn up!

Family Kitchen (to start again in September 2025)

At Yr Heliwr, we are well aware that money is tight for many at the moment.

Our Cegin Teulu/ Family Kitchen, held on the last Monday of every month, serves a delicious, nutritious and affordable hot evening meal prepared by our staff

All proceeds go to local foodbanks , ensuring your cash goes to help others. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more details.
